My name is JJ and I started Verdant City Food to fill a gap I saw for real, high quality, plant-based recipes. Like many of you, I was tired of eating the same black bean burgers, hummus, and salads. This food is not meant to be a substitute for someone with a dietary restriction. This is real food that anyone can enjoy.
It is becoming more and more common to see plant-based options on menus, but they often seem like an afterthought. I always ask people: Would you enjoy eating this? Would you find this satisfying to eat? If the answer is no, then I probably wouldn’t enjoy it either. Here we focus on quality recipes that would not seem out of place at any restaurant, potluck or social event.
The recipes here are all plant based. They contain no meat, fish, chicken, eggs, or dairy. Other than those restrictions our recipes cover a wide range of foods. You will find healthy recipes for smoothies, salads, and juices. But you will also find recipes for fried foods, sweet treats and mix drinks. It is all about balance. Located in south texas, our recipes are inspired by our environment. You will see a lot of Tex-Mex, BBQ, southern food, happy hour food and patio food.
